Attitudinous : "(informal)
Having a bold and possibly unfriendly attitude; sassy."
Yes. That would be me on Sunday, still
tired after a satisfyingly busy but unusually physically taxing
Saturday night. I was not so much feeling unfriendly as
fiesty-ish with a "mess with me today at your peril"
approach to life and a warning to those who might cross my path while brandishing their own problematic attitude. We woke up to a very cold and rainy-icy
morning, and neither of us was roaring to hit the long road to the
Big City, but hit the road we did.
My soggy little soul wanted my warmest
and coziest coat; faux fur, not quite vintage, and one I pull out on
days when I need to wrap myself in a little spirit-uplifting glamor
as well as some substantial warmth. It has that 50's
dress-up-fur-coat styling, and really needed a bit of toughening up
with my highly attitudinous, lug-soled Ralph Lauren lace-up boots,
and my big, old studded shopper. The sleeves need my ancient, long
leather gloves for complete comfort in this weather, and my big, red
and black plaid scarf just begged to complete the outfit, so I
obliged. All old friends, all well used and all completely and
reliably cozy on these coldest, dampest days.
It's nice to have some attitudinous
pieces in the closet, just for days like this, 'cause if you are not
completely up to showing the world a bold face, you can, at least,
let your outfit hint at one.
(No, the hem isn't wonky. The coat is
lined with soft, heavy satin and the big, wide sleeves allow it to
slide around a bit ... I sort of like the louche, 70's-style
attitudinous feel it gives to the whole get-up.)

WooHoo! Instant attitude improvement:
It's Visible Monday at the Voluntarily and Happily Unemployed Patti's link up!
Oh your "soggy little soul"! - that made me sad. Then I saw your fan-tastic outfit and no more pity for you! What a great look nad gorgeous with your deep red hair. Thanks for bringing the beauty over to Vis Monday, xox.
ReplyDeleteIs that plaid I spy? And are those 4-inch heeled boots? With a fur coat? Attitudinous indeed! And here I thought I'd made up that word to describe my kiddos. You wear it - and this ensemble - far better and with a lot more grace than they. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous and sassy in your attitudinous outfit, Jan! And so cozy too, great mix. xxx
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy coming to visit you, I always learn something. This is a great coat and I love the look of it! Have a great week even if it's cold. BTW, I love those boots too!

Great ensemble for January, with its attitude and glamour. So good to catch up with you and your witty and brilliant writing. Happy New Year Jan!
ReplyDeleteThat outfit has attitude... And the coat looks so luxurious nd comfy, like it's hugging you. Attitude and comfort in the same package, perfect.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe.... your winter style is sensational! Layering is awesome, love the entire look!!! It exudes luxury!
ReplyDeleteThere's not a hint of a soggy little soul in this outfit! That coat is gorgeous and the perfect thing for an icy day. x
ReplyDeleteChic, sassy, elegant and cosy all in one outfit! Your taste is impeccable, my friend. I would look such a hobo beside you! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWow you look wonderful - love from head to toe!
ReplyDeleteYou're looking sassy and fab in your outfit! No one would dare mess with lovely you. Love, love, love the coat. I have one not dissimilar to this one I bought in Little Rock back in 1999 at NBC 1/2 of 1/2 (oh...I love those stores...sigh).
ReplyDeleteLove this look...especially the faux fur! Hmm...maybe I should get mine out of the closet and take it for a spin.

That faux fur is FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteSome people have called me sassy and I didn't know it meant I'm a bitch. LOL oops. Oh well.
bisous
Suzanne
Your faux fur looks decidedly luxurious Jan. I would NOT be messing with you. I'm liking the peek of red scarf...I'm glad it begged.
ReplyDeleteOoh, you're attitudinous all right, Jan, and I love it! (I might say the same about myself more often than not...) Well, if the alternative is a soggy bottom, I say go with the attitude! As you might expect, I LOVE the coat, the long gloves, the colour in the scarf, and the kickass boots. You're not a woman to be trifled with, and you look bloody great! xxx
ReplyDeleteWHat a perfect coat. You look so chic in it. While the boots give it the attitude you wanted. The scarf is absolutely spot-on fashion these days, so you did very well. I have one (less sumptuous than yours) in black. An old coat as a present from Anja. I hang on to it for similar reasons like you do. At least it is a coat with sleeves that are wide enough.

PS You never told us what you were doing in the big city.
Attitude, you have in spades, so stylish in this fabulous coat, boots and that bag. I would not have messed with you just stood back in awe.
ReplyDeleteYou look so fabulous you should be attitudinous every day. I love that slidey-lining luxury and can't think of a better remedy for a "soggy little soul." Plus, you could pull up the collar on that and almost disappear should you choose. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo good! I'm having the hardest time dressing for cold weather and not looking like a bum.
ReplyDeleteAtti-what?? Oh, sassy.. I can relate to sassy ;) One word for that coat - GLAM!!
ReplyDeleteOoh La La, you look lush and sexy!
ReplyDeleteSass on with your bad self! You look positively lux in that coat (which I'm coveting), and I think the boots just add to the attitude. Great look for a fiesty feeling, and I can relate this week!

Wow, love that coat!!! You look totally attitudinous (also love the word!!!) x
ReplyDeleteYour coat is gorgeous, looks so cozy yet glamorous. I love the pop of red too. You look great!
ReplyDeleteLorna Mai
I can feel the coat hug all the way over here! What a great outfit, and all the better for being reliable and well loved. You can relax into it, knowing it will cover your frozen places :-) Do you get hugged and touched more in this? I do in my version of it. Although I'm sure it's the coat not me they're hugging. Many hugs to YOU this week...and a tiny arm rub for the coat ;-) xo Jazzy Jack
ReplyDeletewouu, lovely coat, it looks particularly cozy and cool!! love its shape and love that it gives you al that needed attitudiness!! you look elegant and glamourous, with a touch of kickass sassiness!!! fabulous!
ReplyDeletebesos
GORGEOUS! That coat is amazing and I love the bag too. As always, you inspire me.
ReplyDeleteXo,
Love that coat! I'm still on the hunt for a faux fur that is just right for me. They do make you feel and look glamorous! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so sophisticated in a way that only cold weather can make possible. This whole post reminds me of the J Peterman catalogue ;-)
ReplyDeleteJan, Loving the casual plaid scarf paired with the sophisticated fur coat! And, the heeled knee-high boots - fabulous look!

And did it work? I like the idea of attitude pieces, especially if they work ;-) I also like your bag, boots and gloves. Wanted to get myself something faux fur too, finally, this year but once again it is almost on its way out already and I didn't find something I liked enough to invest.

The bag is so pretty:)

Talk about being way behind, how did I miss this post? I absolutely adore your "attitudinous" whether it be just you in general or a beautiful, cozy piece of clothing. And, I couldn't agree more with you, it is nice to have a piece of clothing or two, to help show the world how we're truly feeling, or not.
ReplyDeleteYou look so glamorous, chic and fierce with your outfit! And the scarf enhances your hair very well. I'm in love with your bag. You can fit a lot of things in there (all your shopping stuff) and looks very durable.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well, it's been raining and cold here in Sacramento too. We had a great warm week last week but we're truly back to winter.
