Collaborations Combined

This week I decided to try not only combining a couple of favorite prints, but a couple of different designers that have done collaborations with Target and JCP (as good old
JC Penny likes to be known these days.) Earlier this spring, Target brought us Prabal Gurung's offerings. Currently, JCP and Duro Olowo are brightening our world with his excellent tribal prints, made expressly to mix and match.
I didn't expect that these very bold prints from different designers would work so well together.

I'm getting such a kick out of wearing these very pretty Gurung shoes. And they go with almost every solid in my wardrobe and a whole lot of prints! And I'm wearing this sheer-ish Olowo blouse every chance I get before it gets too hot to wear long sleeves. There are several pieces in this extremely affordable group that I really want before they're gone. And kudos to JCP for having more than one item available in each size. (Do you hear that, Small-Town-Sized Target ?)

********

And, for those of you who saw last week's post dedicated to my husband, Dan, and his forays into the realm of public presentation of personal style, I have a quick update for you. On Sunday, we were mooching around the house, thinking about getting ready to drive into the Big City. I went into the bedroom, and found him standing in front of the closet, just staring thoughtfully at his wardrobe.

"Whatcha gonna wear? " I asked.

He was silent for a moment, then said quietly and very deliberately, "I don't know. There's so much pressure now that I have a fan base ..."

I very nearly wet my pants. But you had to be there, I guess.

Thank you all for your glowing compliments. He enjoyed being in the limelight for a while, but we don't want this to go to his head too much. No.

********

And speaking of laughing ...
This week's Style Imitates Art inspiration is by Alex Gross.

It's titled Captain America, and he's painted over late 19th-early 20th century postcards or "reconfigured cabinet cards" ( For more of these go HERE .)

This is my response, and it's only complete with its title,
A Blue Blazer Goes with Everything.

The title didn't go in with the SIA entry, and it just seems too serious without it.
I thought it was funny, anyway ...

    1. Yes! These do remind me of her wooly-yarn shoes! These are a sleek, polished cotton sort of fabric. They really do go with so many things, and are as quick as jewelry to punch up an outfit. Lovely with a simple solid colored sheath ... not much else is needed. Dan actually picked these out. I'll keep him, I think.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. How wonderful is it that your husband now understands what you go through when you stand in front of your closet? LOL! I think it's terrific! Sweetie, the Target "one size per store" capsule collection rule applies up here in no-so-small-town Nashville, too. They are trying to appear all "boutiquey" *snicker*
I quite like your JCP shirt. My local JCP is under serious construction but I'll have to check online for some Olowo.
I love your Wonder Woman self portrait!

    1. Hey, Alicia. Glad you got a chuckle ... he's a mess, but he's my mess! I aim to amuse.
If you haven't been in JCP for a while, they've gone all "boutiquey" too, but in a good kind of way. I'm liking it better there ... but fear they're going back to their dowdy old ways. Gotta write and whine ... sometimes it helps. It's possible to present goods in a youthful way, without being silly or simply trendy-young, and that's what I'm seeing. Let us all know if your store does the same when you get a chance to get back.

  3. I love you as Wonder Woman!! It's so nice to see your face !! :-). I don't shop retail anymore so I've missed the Target /JCP collections but I love those shoes for sure. Might change my mind about retail.

Sounds like you and your sweetheart have fun together; I loved the closet commentary. Have a fab week!!

    1. I really do listen to you guys that successfully renew and reuse, but it's very difficult here. I'm sure there are bargains out there, but much of it I wouldn't have worn new, let alone recycled. There's huge creative and ethical virtue in your upscaling and repurposing, and I am at least learning to look at used things with that eye ... but no real success yet. Know that you've changed my consciousness, though, and not just mine.

You have a fab week as well ...
      Hugs if you like 'um,

  5. I love the paisley and stripes and I adore the stripey shoes! I've seen several other bloggers preening over their Prabal Gurung for Target and must say I am very jealous - Target gets some pretty amazing designer collaborations!
I laughed at your description of Dan before his wardrobe contemplating his newfound pressure as style icon!
You look great as Wonder Woman - one of my favourite series as a kid.

    1. These big-box collaborations are about as close to designer work as I'll ever see, but I do get a glimpse of their aesthetic. Given that they only have one size to sell for each item, I have a fairly unique little collection, at least for Bumfuzzle, Nowhere!
The thing about Dan and his quip is that he set the situation up just to get to deliver that outrageous line. He does that periodically, and I really love him for all the effort. Most of the time, these set ups are very funny, but when they fail, they are extreme fails! That's a rare quality in a man. I like it.
I considered doing the usual action-figure pose and body-type with my head tacked on ... and it would have been easy enough, but decided to make her more Every-Woman ... and hope that people got it.
It's done now, as they say.
      Upward and onward,
with massive thanks for stopping by!

I also love the Target collaborations, being only an occasional visitor to the US I can only get a few things here and there. But I can't complain as I brought back a busload of stuff on my last visit to the US during the XMas season - Prabal Gurung, Mar Jacobs etc and all at half price!

    1. Thanks! I'm really enjoying these little shoes.
Gotta tell ya ... I never thought I'd be mixing prints and patterns, but retailers are helping by putting things together. Some of us pooh-pooh trends, and they do create fashion victims, but color trends by various designers make for some seasonal continuity in color, theme and print design elements. Easier mixing!

      Thanks, Dawn, for stopping by!

    1. Glad you got a kick out of it, Sue. I do like to entertain, and happy if it's fun for you.
So glad you liked the colors. I did think of you while I was making the drawing ... one of the reasons I like to draw the fabrics is that the camera often bleaches the color, and photo enhancers don't always get it right. I was able to digitally "mix" the green in the blouse, and translate some of the optical mixes in the sleeves, so I could get as close as possible to the real thing. Both these items are ALL about color!
      Have a great week, Beauty.
      See you soon!

    1. Thanks so much, Judith! They are pretty comfortable, and they are lady-like in ways that would suit your style! That's the thing about good design, that those shoes would suit such very differently shaped women. I look a little less boxy in them, and you would look svelte, as you always do.

Dan has had such a great time with that little project. He's like a kid in that he loves having his picture made, and is willing to dress up to do it. Gotta love that in a guy!
