Wonky Weather and a Hair Adventure Update

It was 78 degrees (25-ish C) here on Sunday when this photo was made.  Not a Sunday in the late summery weather of last September, but on this last Sunday, November 30. Yesterday. The high today was 35 degrees (1.6 C).  We had the AC on in our car on the way to town on Sunday, but heat blasting on the way in to work this morning.
Disconcerting and sort of time-warpy, but pleasant.
The unseasonable warmth did give me a chance to go lazy and all easy-peasy and wear my one and only graphic T ... my Audrey Hepburn shirt ... my favorite blazer and a newish red messenger bag.

I found the silky little Audrey shirt on sale at Target, (in my size, which rarely happens) and if it was not true love at first sight, it was an infatuation that turned into shirt-love after I slipped it on.  And how can one not love an image of Audrey? (The red cursive is supposed to be her signature.)  Besides the bag, the rest was a matter of closet shopping some of my favorite dress-up-dress-down coated jeans, shoes and the rest.  Guilt free and fun to wear on a lazy Sunday.

Below is a better view of the bag.  It was a rare pleasure for me to find it on clearance, after I'd zeroed in on it the first time I'd seen it a few weeks ago, but put it right back on the rack after I looked at the original price.

This never happens to me.  So, I'm pleased.  I'd wanted a red bag to sharpen up a lot of darks I'm drawn to this winter, and this functions just fine.  Lots of fun compartments, and the drop is a dandy length to sling over the shoulder with a jacket or coat.

Hair-Color Debacle Drama Update: As predicted, super-stylist Kay did get a massive laugh at my adventure in bright hair color. A great cut helped a lot.  It's simmered down with washing and a couple of applications of a warm-red color refreshing glaze.  Neat!  It's still bright, but I don't mind it so much.  And the consistent acquisition of my personal color is no longer an issue.  Excellent. I'm no longer unhappy and that is my preferred emotional state, if I get to choose!

  1. Glad you're happier with your hair now. Love the pop of red in your outfit. We had a bit of a blip in the weather on Saturday, it was wonderful to be out on the street in a sleeveless dress for a bit. Bare feet though? That's a step too far, that's the pat of my body that always feels the chill! x

I was eyeballing that Audrey tee - love that you got it, and rock it. And the hair color is fabulous - I know what you mean about your preferred emotional state re: hair! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xoxo.

  6. Well we had a warm snap at 40 for a day. You look pretty snappy there kid. Check out those stilettos, skinny jeans, Audrey T, red purse, and really cool red hair, wowzer.

  7. I've been eyeing that top for quite some time but every time I try it on, the material keeps clinging to my pooch. On you, on the other hand, it falls quite nicely and elegantly, just like the lady it depicts. So jealous of you right now. ;p

  8. Fantastic look, Jan!!! Love it all, especially that t-shirt I'm a BIG Audrey fan myself. You didn't mention it, but I have to tell you, you're looking a bit bad-ass here, too. You go girl!!!

  14. so... I think I need to go visit my local target tomorrow, I love audrey hepburn and that t-shirt looks cool. I think your hair looks so good, redheads are the lucky ones! I love how you are able to laugh with your stylist about it.

  15. You do casual/chic so well! The hair colour and cut look great and it's a great looking bag so I see why you were drawn to it. The way it goes with the red signature on the shirt is just so damn clever. It would be a rare and happy accident if I got that coordinated. Sometimes I have laughed out loud when I've seen a bag I loved, picked it up and found a $300 price tag.

  18. I think you look snazy. Don't know why and how I came up with this word (which I had to look up to be sure I didn't say something wrong). But that is the word which sprung to my mind. Really elegant and edgy look. As I am looking at your post without reading glasses on (a high risk), I thought Audrey was playing an electric guitar on your shirt. Glad you enlightened us.
The bag is perfect. Exactly that pop of red which will give so many outfits that little bit of extra.
    Well done dear.
Our weather is now in the 32F and no swinging back to 78. Oh no. Definitely cold.

  21. Your hair looks lovely and compliments your outfits greatly. I'm in loss when it comes to my hair. I never know what to do with it!Graphic t shirts and red bags are on my radar for sometime now. I just haven't found the right ones yet!

  22. Very stylish casual. My favourite kind! Red bags are so great aren't they? Almost as good as red shoes :-D Your hair looks wonderful and vibrant. Lesson well learned :-)

  23. That shirt is an amazing find! I really love how you put everything together, a perfect look for brunch... or even a girls' night out! And I'm so jealous that you managed to get a bag you already wanted at full price on sale later.

When I was purse-shopping earlier this year, I really... really... REALLY wanted oxblood. Or red. But I came across a lovely "bordeaux" colored Coach bag. I then realized that this color was a better "fit" for my work wardrobe than what I'd been search for, so I bought that one instead.

That didn't make putting the perfect red Coach bag back on the rack at TJ Maxx a few months later, when I was flat broke, any easier.

I'm too chicken to dye my own hair....

Absolutely love the hair and I really think you should keep this style and color too! The tee is gorgeous. I think graphic/printed tee can be a hit or miss.. this one is actually quite elegant and stylish, thanks to the icon herself and the way you style it. Congrats for all the right score!

  25. Black and white, with red hair, bag and signature? Fabulously stylish, Jan! You look svelte and chic and very put-together, despite the weird weather and mini-dramas in the hair department... Super-bright red hair is much less of a drama than setting fire to it, I know you'll agree! xxx

  26. Jan I LOVE the Audrey Hepburn shirt! Graphic tees are so fun to wear, especially how you styled it with the tuxedo blazer and black pants. And, the red bag pulls it all together. Fabulous look!! Oh, and I also love your haircut and color - very stylish.

  35. Thanks, Patti! You should have tried it on ... that's what sold me. It's so silky, skims curves and drapes instead of defining every lump, and it's short enough for me (rare!) And thank you for appreciating my need for at least acceptance if not satisfaction with my hair. That's a need we all have in common!

  36. The Audrey Hepburn t-shirt is a true find. You wear it well and love the red bag, playing off the red of the tee. Very stylish, Jan. But then, that's how you roll!

  40. Ummm, yes. It's back to being chilly here. We get those balmy days here, sometimes, but rarely so late in the season. My mother did once claim to have mowed the lawn on Christmas Day, but hen she used to iron my dad's underwear and our bath towels.
I like this outfit ... I've never found proportions easy to deal with, but I really like this outfit. It's as much "me" as anything I've worn for a while. It's all "me," of course, but a "me" I don't mind being! Thanks, Pao.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Might be that the shirt is very short for a T ... that makes it fit me (a pleasant surprise .. but may have been why there were some left in my size at that late date. Sometimes a pudgy rack helps hold silky materials out away from all of our pooches! I'm jealous, in my turn, that you made that lovely georgette print shirt work so beautifully, when I find it so problematic! So there. Thank you, sweet girl, for dropping by!

  43. Thank you, Monica! It was fun to wear on one of our balmy days that we sometimes get in winter here. It's back to being all chilly, so perhaps next time with a leather jacket and a scarf!

  48. It was either laugh or cry, Neo! No kidding, Kay the Genius Hair Stylist is cracked up by me on a regular basis. She's such a baby, and I'm one of her most elderly clients, and my efforts to remain current and relevant (note I didn't say younger!) amuse her a lot. She is helping me maintain a source of hair color after my mishap, so the adventure wasn't for nothing!
Thank you for stopping by with such nice comments, kiddo!

  49. Oh,oh.... I think I didn't choose the right wording. I didn' t mean the fitting of the clothes. I meant, that the colours and audrey, and black, and white.... match together in a very harmonic way.

  50. It was a fun outfit to wear on the balmy day! Back to the chilly winter weather we're used to, so I'll wear the shirt with moto or a coat (or both!) and a scarf. Know what you mean about the price of the bag ... I do that often, and put it back like a hot potato. I'm sort a bitch about brands, too. I'm always chagrined when I see just the perfect bag until I see that it's by Ivanka Trump. No matter how much I like it (and I often like the design of her bags) I won't contribute a nickle to her already massive fortune. It's wrong to hold her father's stupid racism and general simian behavior against her, but I do. I know, I know.
Glad you like my hair in the photo ... you might not like my hair in real life. It's faded to something wearable for me, and I'll color it soon. Until then, I'm trying to relish it just a little.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thank you, Deborah! You are just a style icon of mine, and I think of you when I start the inner dialog that goes on when I yearn for just the simplicity and elegance of black. We get so much pressure to add color, and sometimes I want that, too. But insisting that color be present in an outfit is tantamount to being told to smile all the time. And as one with resting bitch face, I hear that a lot. Thanks for the inspiration, as always.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I sure enjoyed that balmy day, Alice, but the weather has gone all cold again. I'm sure I'll wear the shirt and T again with a moto or coat, or both, and a scarf, of course, on a chillier day soon. Thank you so much for stopping by. You always help me feel good about what I'm wearing!

  53. Snazzy! Great word, and I'm happy you used it in conjunction with this outfit. Thank you! I see what you mean about Audrey on lead guitar ... it could happen, but ... no. Ha. I know messenger bags are on the outs, but I'm really fond of this one ... there's at least a hint of construction, and some very cool hidden pockets and lots of cool zippers. Large enough, but not too large. I'm sort of off carrying just a clutch ( I need more stuff in winter) and this bag isn't too big, I think.
It's gone back to cool here, as well. No matter ... I'm ready for it!
    Stay warm, darling Greetje!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Either way, it was nice to hear! In English, you certainly might use "fit", but perhaps "work together" "compliment" "go together" or as you say, "match" or "harmonize". I'm so impressed when anyone from non-English speaking Europe speaks English to me and you do a wonderful job. I speak no German, only a little French and Spanish, and we Americans are bad about bothering to learn other languages. I think a second language ought to be manditory here in American schools. Then we might be as polite as the rest of the world! Thank you, Sunny!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thank you, Jilly! I'm going to re-color soon, and will feel more myself. I actually like the color it is right at this moment, but it's a lot of trouble to get it this way! I'd have loved the brighter color as a younger woman, but there's a fine line between looking edgy and fashion-forward and looking like I just fell out of the clown car.
Nice to have your very sweet comments and sympathy!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thank you so much, Janise. I'm so glad you like it ... and if ever I admired someone, it's certainly you, so your compliments mean a lot. Hope you continue to enjoy the SoCal winter!

  57. Thank you, Catherine! The debacle (and that is just what it was!) isn't quite over yet ... I'm pretty happy with how it looks right now, but it took a lot to get it here. Kay is indeed the best! She's stopped laughing (finally!) and is helping me get a consistent source of hair color, so I don't have to go through this again!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hello, Angie! So glad to see you back at Visible Monday, and happy you stopped by. Your hair looks elegant, always. I know what you mean about looking for something for a while ... the finding of this red bag was a long search. "Right" for me always involves a very reasonable price tag! Thanks so much for your kind remarks!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'd like to think I learned my lesson here, Jack, but I'm a slow learner sometimes. Kay's helping me maintain a consistent source of haircolor now, so things look happier on the hair-horizon. So important, that stuff growing out of my head!
Red shoes ... I almost wore them with this instead of the bag. Love me some red shoes, I know.
So happy to hear from you, Jack. Finding you is one of the best things I did for my own entertainment this year! Thank you!

  60. P.S ... just put Natural Medley on my sidebar ... I have a hard time finding you, and it will be easier now!

  61. Thank you! I know I'll wear this shirt in some way or another a lot. It just feels fabulous, and it's nice to have one graphi T I like!
I'd drop dead and die happy if I ever found a Coach bag at my price range! Lucky you! And the bordeaux-deep-red will serve you in a thousand ways. Sounds gorgeous.
I've been coloring for so long now, I'm comfortable with the risk. Clearly, I'm not perfect at it yet, though. They've perfected the process so that it's much harder to ruin your hair completely, and mine is so fine and thin that it really needs the "damage" to be manageable. Or such is my excuse!

    ReplyDelete
  62. No, Mrs. C ... I don't think you'd have liked the color so much if you'd seen it IRL . Looks better in the photo, and it does look great right NOW ... but so difficult to get it to this point. Thank you anyway for the boost, and I'm glad you like the cut. It's more "me" than any hair cut I've had for a while. I'm in the Pixie Party now, it seems. The very short style minimizes the color-shock factor, I think!
I've done a lot of looking for a graphic T ... I'd have preferred a T expressing an idea with words, but Audrey is like the American flag ... hard to say anything nasty about her without someone taking offense! Thanks for your very, very supportive remarks. I like her, too.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hello again, my fine feathered friend! The balmy break has gone back to cold, but I'm all good with that, and the hair drama has subsided. Not quite ready to set fire to it, but you are so right, as always. Yes.
    What?
When Kay finished laughing, and that took awhile, she very kindly hooked me up with a consistent supply of a workable hair-color. She's a peach that way ... so many stylists are huffy if you do anything yourself. She supports my bad habits like a true friend!
Always thrilled when I see you've stopped by, C.

  65. There's a method to my madness. I've decided that since everyone is obliged to love Audrey, I'm in very safe territory. Needed someone from my era to idolize as I couldn't find appropriate pithy statements to go on my chest that I really like, but I'm working on it! Thank you for liking one of my current favorite outfits, and for being very kind about the mad hair color. I'm working on that!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Awwwh! Thank you Dana ... you are always so elegant, and you are also very kind to say such nice things. I have another red bag or two, but they're either too big, too little or too subdued. So happy you dropped in!

  71. I cannot imagine why I would not like your hair in real life even if it has faded. Look at me-I am not brightly coloured am I?
Ivanka...well she seems to admire her father ( I suppose not a terrible quality in a daughter) and I am sure she has had many advantages in life because of her birth so she is not amongst my most admired women. I suspect that if I looked too deeply though I could find something to object to about nearly every designer and then I would be naked. ;-)
