Minimal Me
Just a dress I love. With me in it. With a waist, for a change. No big whoop. No, this isn't haiku.
Did you plan to shoot with this dress against the brick background? If so, clever you! Jan, you look precious. It's nice to see you in lively colors and a pretty, little dress. You look radiant!
There was a young lady named Jan, who wore a lovely dress and looked grand - this isn't a limerick nor haiku (I had to look that up) but bring on the summer sun
Oooh, my very favourite fit and flare silhouette! Is it just my eyes, or is there a lovely pleating detail around the front neckline? Gorgeous summery hues too!
I do love dresses too because they are just so easy and not a whole lot of thinking required. The colors of this dress is very pretty and the shape fits you so well.
That dress is ADORABLE on you. I think it should be your go-to summer dress!! It looks like you could dress it up or down with difference accessories or shoes! ( and it fits perfectly - did you get it tailored?)
"No, this isn't a haiku." Gawds, I love you, Jan! And I love you in that dress. I notice you didn't give us shopping info for it and I don't blame you for wanting to keep the secret to yourself. Gorg!
Perfect summer dress on you Jan, such a super print and the fit spot on. Is this another of you clever stitching? Your shorter hair shows off the details at the scoop front, the dress not yours, thought I should clarify. Have a good week.
Look at you, you smokin' hottie! Love the dress...and the fashion poetry. Debbie PS...No, I would never wear shorts on a motorcycle...ha! :) www.fashionfairydust.blogspot.com
I agree, Jan, what is a summer without dresses! Yours is marvellous, you look fabulous. These colours are pure summer. Sabine Www.acht stünden sind kein Tag.blogspot.de
Very nice! I have a no waist problem and to cheat waist I have to wear a similar dress (if I ever wear one, LOL) The bodycon, figure hugging ones I have many in my closet really make me look straight like a ruler! I love this dress on you :)
The best looks are really just the simple ones but with a touch of class. You´re one of those classy dressers, Jan! The dress is so pretty, I want to steal it. ;)
Hear, hear - dresses ARE Summer :-) Jan, I absolutely love this dress and more so with you in it! The style, details, colours and graphic patterns are a joy together. LOVE the nude heels with it.
Jan.... you look so cute.. so lovely in it! Gorgeous! I love your dress with all this wonderful colors and the great pattern. Wished I had one like this! :)
have a beautiful day Dana http://danalovesfashionandmusic.blogspot.de/
Now don't you look pretty!!! I love the dress, it shows off your nice figure. And why in the world were you fussing about your arms a few posts back?! Honey, I'm from Arkansas, too and you and I both know you do NOT have any reason to cover up your lovely arms. If you are in doubt of that, please go hang out in Wal-mart for a few minutes, look around and then get back to me. Am I right?! Yep, I'm right.
There once was a young lady named Jan Who wore a lovely dress and looked grand She was pleased with her hair, And her shoes she thought fair, But it's sad that her legs were un-tanned! _______________________________
Sorry ... I just had to finish it! Thank you for the nice thoughts and the fun!
Thank you Karen! It's a good fit ... it altered the top just a little to make the fit better. Love the colors, too. A year ago, I'd have worn it with matching orange shoes, but like the idea of neutrals much better with this dress. I evolve!
I'm sort of into dresses this summer, for some reason. Maybe because my favorite fit and flare shapes are more readily available. The fit was pretty good to begin with, but I took up the shoulders a bit to make the length of the bodice fit better. Thank you, Kim! Tickled you think it works well.
Glad you like the silliness and the dress both. It's just from good old Dressbarn. It's been a few seasons since I found anything I like here in ours ... they run to the dowdy here. There's one in Little Rock that has a trendier selection. They like us little old ladies locally. Thanks so much, Maricel!
Glad you had fun with it, Shawna! Happy you like my little dress. I'll wear it a lot this summer, I know. It's all girly, isn't it? Glad you stopped by. Thanks for all!
I'd love to have been able to make this, but my skills aren't that good, Jill. Thanks for thinking I could, though! I did alter the length of the bodice at the strap, though ... I can do a little sewing, but just a little. I really like dresses on me much better with short hair, and I'm glad you think it works, too. Have a great week, yourself!
Yes, Mel! I can see me ... kicked back under an umbrella table, huge pina colada in hand, laughing way too loud and too long! That is, unfortunately, what I could easily be found doing. Lovely idea, Mel. May it become reality much sooner than later. Thanks for all!
Thank you, Mrs. C. Glad you like it on me ... I'll wear it often this summer. I have a "retro figure" I think. That's a euphemism for a big butt, an apparent waistline and too much boobage. I'd trade you in a heartbeat. I'm always tickled when you drop by for a chat!
Love your post. It's possible to for a photo to speak a thousand words, which is true in this case. Gorgeous dress! Yes, summer is for frocks! And nude heels. You look fabulous!
Thank you, Kezzie ... I had to go look that one up, although I've seen quite a lot of Matisse. Glad you mentioned it, and I see what you mean. I first thought of the floating black monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey" only in mulitples and feminized. Hmmmm. Happy you like it, and so glad you dropped in!
Thank you, Vix. So nice of you. Thought I'd give everyone a break this week and just do a picture. I was also running late and out of time and energy. Not really my style, though, is it? So happy you like my dress, kid!
I wear dresses to work a lot in the summer ... they just work well, swishing around the restaurant. Easy with sandals. So happy you like it, Dawn Lucy! Thank you!
Hi Jan! Oh you cut your hair! I loved your bob but this cut is great on you too. You have a beautiful face so you can have any kind of haircut you like, you are so lucky! Adrienne and I will take a picture as late as midnight your time on June 2! Your comments on my blog made me laugh. I too am easily confused. Wait, what? Ha. Have a great weekend! XO, Jill
It would be too big for your petiteness, silly girl. It would look good with your coloring, though. It's from Dressbarn and available on line. Thank you ... "classy" is an extrmemly high compliment in my book, Che. Means more to me coming from you, 'cause you know about classy!
Wow ... what nice things to say, Darlene! Not sure I reach the levels of stunning, but it is a cool print on an easy dress, isn't it. Thank you. So kind!
This is shaping up to be a dressy summer for me ... I'm sick of my summer uniform of skinnies and the lightest top I can manage. I'm even looking for an workable maxi dress or two. And I'm having some fun with dresses over skinnies and interesting shoes. It's so stinking hot here! Nude heels: I'm liking them more this year than ever with brights. And I'm liking bright shoes with more neutral outfits. Hmmm. Thank you for all. So happy when you stop by, always!
Stay tuned, Suzanne ... looks like this will be the season of the dress for me. I'm suddenly ready to go ladylike for a while. Stay tuned ... everyone has seen enough of my summer uniform of skinnies and the lightest weight tops I can manage.
Thank you, Catherine! We have similar tastes, I think, and I'll be wearing lots of dresses this summer. It is so very hot here that they are practical for keeping cool.
Not that we all need a waist with EVERYTHING, but I've been sloppily throwing mine away ... thought I'd show everyone that mine's not gone and I can occasionally whip it all into shape. Are you getting all this rain? Haven't seen the sun much this whole last week and it's been hot and muggy ... cooler today, though!
Thanks, Val! More dresses to come. I'm pretty into them in this odd, hot, gray-skied and rainy weather. (My pasture is looking tropical jungle-y ... that's good. Happy horses.) Have a fabulous week and rest up after all your bloggy meet-upping. Yeaaaay you kids!
Ha! Stay tuned, Connie, then if you like dresses. Will be wearing them a lot as I'm currently sick of my summer uniform of skinnies and floaty tops. It's storming like a mother here today, and hot, so I'm not sure how to dress! Thank you, adorable Connie. Appreciate it.
I love it how you played with the forms of your outfit and your writing here. :) The dress is beautiful! You look stunning in it. Summer dresses really don't need much fuss, I agree with you.
You look very feminine, the floral print is very fresh and just what I am shopping for to wear with a less masculine moto jacket, I am in the mall and just stopped for a cuppa but know exactly what to look for after I saw this dress!!! Stunning! FF
Beautiful.... what a great dress. I say big whoop. (And it is almost a haiku haha.) Seriously.. love the dress and I love it on you. Who's a pretty girl??? Greetje
Thank you, Lana! Some dresses just call out to you from the rack, don't they. There's something that's lets any summer dress elevate the occassion. Wear shorts it's a cook-out, wear a dress and it's a real party!
Thank you, Annette. Glad you like my little dress. Hope you have as much summer as you'd like and as soon as you want it. I know there are some fabulous frocks in your closet, just waiting to come out and play.
Hello, Judith ... my hero! Thought I'd give everyone a break and just do a photo post. Glad you liked it. There wasn't much more to say than I just love this dress. I'm feeling very "dressy" these days, and cool and easy dresses are required. These are among my favorite shoes, and they are very, very comfortable. So happy you think they work. Thank you for all. I'm always so happy when you drop by!
Thank you, Dan ... it is one of my favorites. Nice things tend to happen when I wear these shoes, too, so it looks like I'll be wearing the two together often! Glad to hear from you!
Thanks, Jill ... for the extremely nice comments and the clarification. I'll get a photo in later today or in the early evening. If you can believe it, I've been out fixing pasture fence in the freaking rain, and am just getting back to my usual Monday schedule. Urk. I've decided that I'm just too uncool to wear a bob. It is a cut for cool girls and very cool women ... that's why it works on you so well! My adorable hair cutter was loathe to let me take it so short, but it's all good now. Sweet of you to say I have a pretty face ... I never hear that. I've been told my features are too coarse to wear a pixie, so reality is somewhere in the middle, I'm sure. What I'm glad about is that lots of women can successfully pull off a pixie, and it's much more versatile than I thought. I'm happy, and I'm pleased that my peers like it. That has much more meaning than the opinion of a 20-something junior editor in a style mag. Off topic: I have some choice phrases that I'd like carved on my tombstone. One is "You're not from around here, are 'ye?" and another is "Wait. What?" Have a groovy week, Jill. And thanks again for hosting How I Wear My ...! You guys both rock.
Hello, Natalia! So good to hear from you. A stop by your spot is on my list of nice things to do for myself today. Been a busy morning out fixing fence on our front pasture in the rain! Summer here is perfect for simple dressing ... necklaces can be problematic, even earrings. I'm just enjoying putting on a dress, these days. Not many women wear them here these days. I've been meaning to ask you about your take on the "single earring" idea. You seem to be an earring girl, and although I have been in the past and have three holes in one ear and two in another, I've not bothered when I had long hair. Now they show! Do you often wear mismatched pairs, or big, artsy singles? Thanks so much for stopping by with such kind remarks!
Hello, Nicolene! So happy you like my outfit. I love dresses this summer, not sure exactly why. Probably because they're not often worn here, and I didn't wear many last summer. Hope you found the dress you wanted! Thank you, too, for the Twitter invitation! I don't even have an account. I can barely keep up on my blog responses, and a new one each week. I'm useless on Facebook, as I don't have that much to talk about daily. It would probably be good for my writing, as I love to go on and on ... can't imagine expressing my dubious opinions in only 140 characters! Have a fabulous week, and thank you for stopping by!
Hello, Cherie! So happy you stopped by, and that you like my dress. Your particular style sense and tastes are qualities I can only admire. And believe me, I do. My huz and I are poodle people... I don't think people know what yard-thugs and wonderful ruffians they can be. We have two, a miniature and a toy. Just two of my four-leggity loves. Thanks for dropping by!
Please please always be honest with me too. I can handle it. And I prefer it. If you want to read why we Dutch like honesty so much.... click on the link. It will make you laugh.
Jan, you are a busy lady, and I truly appreciate that you take a moment of your life to stop and write such thoughtful comments. Thank you for that!)
It's interesting that you ask about the asymmetrical approach to earrings, because I have just thought of it recently. In the past, I was strictly symmetrical kind of earring wearer I think. But I have just recently thought - why not try some creativity with earrings too? If I do try it, I will make sure to blog about it. :)
I totally understand about hot weather. I am not a fan, and heat just doesn't inspire me in terms of style. I am very much mild weather kind of girl. You know how it is here - nice and mild, almost never hot. I am yet to discover how to approach Summer this year. I want to dress in a stylish way, but also simple in Summer.
Hihihihihihihihi...well, considering the fact that last time I checked Joan Collins was married to a nice looking man 30 some years her Junior, happy as can be, I'd say the woman knows what she's talking about.
Ha! You guys are tough! I'm a wimp ... I like useful critique, but a touch of kindness is preferable. It's easy to be complimentary with your looks ... the only thing I've ever questioned is the hairy necklace!
Wow! Beautiful dress. The style, color and pattern are so pretty. You look sooooo good with a skinny belt at your waistline. I wish I could wear a belt and look half as good. Oh, and the perrrrfect shoes. You just get better looking all the time, Jan.
wouuuu, yes, dresses are the best thing about summer and Your Dress Is Fabulous!!, love the colors, love the shape and love how nicely fits you!! you're gorgeous! besos
Oh, but what a really beautiful dress, Jan! Perfect fit, amazing print in a lovely colour combination. Simple yet stunning! This is one of my favourite outfits of yours, Jan.
Slow getting back to everyone ... so thank you for being patient and saying nice things as well! Loved this dress on the manikin, and almost as well in the mirror! You are so nice, Lisa!
Seems like this year is the one for allowing everything to be subject to change without notice. Hair isn't *quite* where I'd like it, but I persevere. I love the length, and the ease, but want a bit more of the ferocity you mention. It could get "crazy-old lady-inappropriate hair" really fast, so I'm looking for a satisfying approach to deconstruction. And yes, I love summer dresses ... better now than shorts for old legs but still cool! Thank you for popping in, Gorgeous Creature!
Thanks for stopping by! Comments are wonderful, so feel free to let me know you were here. I try to respond to every comment, and try to answer within a couple of days. Please note: comments are moderated to avoid spam, so don't panic if your comment doesn't show up right away.

ReplyDeleteSummer here is perfect for simple dressing ... necklaces can be problematic, even earrings.
ReplyDeleteThank you, too, for the Twitter invitation!
Awwh. Thank you, Greetje. Love to see you here, and I appreciate it when you like anything I'm wearing. Know you'll tell me if you don't!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, lovely lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by!
Please please always be honest with me too. I can handle it. And I prefer it.

Jan, you are a busy lady, and I truly appreciate that you take a moment of your life to stop and write such thoughtful comments. Thank you for that!)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that you ask about the asymmetrical approach to earrings, because I have just thought of it recently.
Have a restful day, Jan!
Hihihihihihihihi...well, considering the fact that last time I checked Joan Collins was married to a nice looking man 30 some years her Junior, happy as can be, I'd say the woman knows what she's talking about.
ReplyDeleteHa! You guys are tough! I'm a wimp ... I like useful critique, but a touch of kindness is preferable. It's easy to be complimentary with your looks ... the only thing I've ever questioned is the hairy necklace!
ReplyDeleteWow! Beautiful dress. The style, color and pattern are so pretty. You look sooooo good with a skinny belt at your waistline. I wish I could wear a belt and look half as good. Oh, and the perrrrfect shoes.
ReplyDeleteYou just get better looking all the time, Jan.
Love this dress! The pointy, nude pumps are perfect with it. And your hair is super cute!
ReplyDeleteJan, this dress is super cute and you look fabulous in it!!! I LOVE it.
ReplyDeletewouuuu, yes, dresses are the best thing about summer and Your Dress Is Fabulous!!, love the colors, love the shape and love how nicely fits you!! you're gorgeous!
ReplyDeletebesos
Oh, but what a really beautiful dress, Jan! Perfect fit, amazing print in a lovely colour combination. Simple yet stunning! This is one of my favourite outfits of yours, Jan.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. Looks perfect with your hair, which is fierce. Love the colours. Don't you love dresses for summer?
ReplyDeleteSlow getting back to everyone ... so thank you for being patient and saying nice things as well! Loved this dress on the manikin, and almost as well in the mirror! You are so nice, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean! Everything is in flux right now, so I'm behind with my posts and comments. Thanks also for being patient!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elsie. Didn't forget you ... just entering the busy time of year and having trouble keeping up. So sweet of you to comment so kindly!
ReplyDeleteDresses Forever ... Summer All Year Long! Maybe not ... we love our layers too much, you and I ! Thank you, lovely lady, for your very kind comments!
ReplyDeleteI'm so slow and behind in my replies ... thank you, Olga, for your kind remarks and your patience.
ReplyDeleteSeems like this year is the one for allowing everything to be subject to change without notice. Hair isn't *quite* where I'd like it, but I persevere. I love the length, and the ease, but want a bit more of the ferocity you mention. It could get "crazy-old lady-inappropriate hair" really fast, so I'm looking for a satisfying approach to deconstruction.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I love summer dresses ... better now than shorts for old legs but still cool!
Thank you for popping in, Gorgeous Creature!
