Minimal Me

Just a dress I love.
With me in it.
With a waist, for a change.
No big whoop.
No, this isn't haiku.

Dresses are the best thing about summer.

I do love dresses too because they are just so easy and not a whole lot of thinking required. The colors of this dress is very pretty and the shape fits you so well.

  9. That dress is ADORABLE on you. I think it should be your go-to summer dress!! It looks like you could dress it up or down with difference accessories or shoes! ( and it fits perfectly - did you get it tailored?)

  13. Perfect summer dress on you Jan, such a super print and the fit spot on. Is this another of you clever stitching? Your shorter hair shows off the details at the scoop front, the dress not yours, thought I should clarify. Have a good week.

Very nice! I have a no waist problem and to cheat waist I have to wear a similar dress (if I ever wear one, LOL) The bodycon, figure hugging ones I have many in my closet really make me look straight like a ruler! I love this dress on you :)

  31. Now don't you look pretty!!! I love the dress, it shows off your nice figure. And why in the world were you fussing about your arms a few posts back?! Honey, I'm from Arkansas, too and you and I both know you do NOT have any reason to cover up your lovely arms. If you are in doubt of that, please go hang out in Wal-mart for a few minutes, look around and then get back to me. Am I right?! Yep, I'm right.

And yes, I agree with you about dresses.

  35. Thank you Karen! It's a good fit ... it altered the top just a little to make the fit better. Love the colors, too. A year ago, I'd have worn it with matching orange shoes, but like the idea of neutrals much better with this dress. I evolve!

  39. I'm sort of into dresses this summer, for some reason. Maybe because my favorite fit and flare shapes are more readily available. The fit was pretty good to begin with, but I took up the shoulders a bit to make the length of the bodice fit better. Thank you, Kim! Tickled you think it works well.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Glad you like the silliness and the dress both. It's just from good old Dressbarn. It's been a few seasons since I found anything I like here in ours ... they run to the dowdy here. There's one in Little Rock that has a trendier selection. They like us little old ladies locally.
    Thanks so much, Maricel!

  41. Glad you had fun with it, Shawna! Happy you like my little dress. I'll wear it a lot this summer, I know. It's all girly, isn't it?

  43. I'd love to have been able to make this, but my skills aren't that good, Jill. Thanks for thinking I could, though! I did alter the length of the bodice at the strap, though ... I can do a little sewing, but just a little. I really like dresses on me much better with short hair, and I'm glad you think it works, too.
    Have a great week, yourself!

    Thanks for all!

  47. Thank you, Mrs. C. Glad you like it on me ... I'll wear it often this summer. I have a "retro figure" I think. That's a euphemism for a big butt, an apparent waistline and too much boobage. I'd trade you in a heartbeat.

  58. This is shaping up to be a dressy summer for me ... I'm sick of my summer uniform of skinnies and the lightest top I can manage. I'm even looking for an workable maxi dress or two. And I'm having some fun with dresses over skinnies and interesting shoes. It's so stinking hot here! Nude heels: I'm liking them more this year than ever with brights. And I'm liking bright shoes with more neutral outfits. Hmmm.
Thank you for all. So happy when you stop by, always!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Stay tuned, Suzanne ... looks like this will be the season of the dress for me. I'm suddenly ready to go ladylike for a while. Stay tuned ... everyone has seen enough of my summer uniform of skinnies and the lightest weight tops I can manage.

  60. Thank you, Catherine! We have similar tastes, I think, and I'll be wearing lots of dresses this summer. It is so very hot here that they are practical for keeping cool.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not that we all need a waist with EVERYTHING, but I've been sloppily throwing mine away ... thought I'd show everyone that mine's not gone and I can occasionally whip it all into shape.
Are you getting all this rain? Haven't seen the sun much this whole last week and it's been hot and muggy ... cooler today, though!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks, Val! More dresses to come. I'm pretty into them in this odd, hot, gray-skied and rainy weather. (My pasture is looking tropical jungle-y ... that's good. Happy horses.)
Have a fabulous week and rest up after all your bloggy meet-upping. Yeaaaay you kids!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ha! Stay tuned, Connie, then if you like dresses. Will be wearing them a lot as I'm currently sick of my summer uniform of skinnies and floaty tops. It's storming like a mother here today, and hot, so I'm not sure how to dress!
Thank you, adorable Connie. Appreciate it.

  72. Hello, Judith ... my hero! Thought I'd give everyone a break and just do a photo post. Glad you liked it. There wasn't much more to say than I just love this dress. I'm feeling very "dressy" these days, and cool and easy dresses are required. These are among my favorite shoes, and they are very, very comfortable. So happy you think they work. Thank you for all.
I'm always so happy when you drop by!

  73. Thank you, Dan ... it is one of my favorites. Nice things tend to happen when I wear these shoes, too, so it looks like I'll be wearing the two together often!
    Glad to hear from you!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thanks, Jill ... for the extremely nice comments and the clarification. I'll get a photo in later today or in the early evening. If you can believe it, I've been out fixing pasture fence in the freaking rain, and am just getting back to my usual Monday schedule. Urk.
I've decided that I'm just too uncool to wear a bob. It is a cut for cool girls and very cool women ... that's why it works on you so well! My adorable hair cutter was loathe to let me take it so short, but it's all good now. Sweet of you to say I have a pretty face ... I never hear that. I've been told my features are too coarse to wear a pixie, so reality is somewhere in the middle, I'm sure. What I'm glad about is that lots of women can successfully pull off a pixie, and it's much more versatile than I thought. I'm happy, and I'm pleased that my peers like it. That has much more meaning than the opinion of a 20-something junior editor in a style mag.
Off topic: I have some choice phrases that I'd like carved on my tombstone. One is "You're not from around here, are 'ye?" and another is "Wait. What?"
Have a groovy week, Jill. And thanks again for hosting How I Wear My ...! You guys both rock.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hello, Natalia! So good to hear from you. A stop by your spot is on my list of nice things to do for myself today. Been a busy morning out fixing fence on our front pasture in the rain!
Summer here is perfect for simple dressing ... necklaces can be problematic, even earrings.
I'm just enjoying putting on a dress, these days. Not many women wear them here these days.
I've been meaning to ask you about your take on the "single earring" idea. You seem to be an earring girl, and although I have been in the past and have three holes in one ear and two in another, I've not bothered when I had long hair. Now they show! Do you often wear mismatched pairs, or big, artsy singles?
Thanks so much for stopping by with such kind remarks!

  76. Hello, Nicolene! So happy you like my outfit. I love dresses this summer, not sure exactly why. Probably because they're not often worn here, and I didn't wear many last summer. Hope you found the dress you wanted!
Thank you, too, for the Twitter invitation! I don't even have an account. I can barely keep up on my blog responses, and a new one each week. I'm useless on Facebook, as I don't have that much to talk about daily. It would probably be good for my writing, as I love to go on and on ... can't imagine expressing my dubious opinions in only 140 characters!
Have a fabulous week, and thank you for stopping by!

  80. Jan, you are a busy lady, and I truly appreciate that you take a moment of your life to stop and write such thoughtful comments. Thank you for that!)

It's interesting that you ask about the asymmetrical approach to earrings, because I have just thought of it recently. In the past, I was strictly symmetrical kind of earring wearer I think. But I have just recently thought - why not try some creativity with earrings too? If I do try it, I will make sure to blog about it. :)

I totally understand about hot weather. I am not a fan, and heat just doesn't inspire me in terms of style. I am very much mild weather kind of girl. You know how it is here - nice and mild, almost never hot. I am yet to discover how to approach Summer this year. I want to dress in a stylish way, but also simple in Summer.

    Have a restful day, Jan!

  94. Seems like this year is the one for allowing everything to be subject to change without notice. Hair isn't *quite* where I'd like it, but I persevere. I love the length, and the ease, but want a bit more of the ferocity you mention. It could get "crazy-old lady-inappropriate hair" really fast, so I'm looking for a satisfying approach to deconstruction.
And yes, I love summer dresses ... better now than shorts for old legs but still cool!
Thank you for popping in, Gorgeous Creature!
